FRNIX Community News

Networking, events & opportunities

Editorial by
Thomas Volmer (Netflix), Vice-Chair of FRNIX

August is synonymous with holidays, relaxation and, sometimes, games on the beach. Young and old alike compete to see who can come up with the most ingenious ideas for building temporary structures: sandcastles, dams or canals dug along the shoreline. As the tide rises, everyone tries to channel the water, guide it and slow it down. But sooner or later, the waves reassert themselves and sweep away even the finest structures.

This natural phenomenon, which can be channelled to a limited extent but never fully controlled, is reminiscent of the nature of internet traffic: unpredictable and constantly evolving. The network infrastructures that FRNIX members are building are subject to forces beyond their control: “permissionless” technological innovation and changes in user behaviour. Just as when faced with the ocean, we must show humility and flexibility.

That is why we focus our efforts on what we do best: building, maintaining and improving robust infrastructure, whilst anticipating changes and adapting to them. Just like the sandcastle builders on the beach in August, we know that our role is not to control the flow, but to support, channel and protect. This humility, combined with our expertise, is the source of the FRNIX community’s strength and wisdom, and the key to France-IX’s success.

Why attend a BGP workshop?

https://frnix.fazacrm.com/uploads/frnix/sticker-workshop-bgp.png

Because Theory only makes sense when you get stuck in..
The BGP workshops, it takes two days to get the full picture:
basics, routes, filters, errors, best practice.

But above all : concrete cases. And experts to guide you.

You’re developing your skills. So are your teams.
It’s simple, useful and targeted.

There’s still one place left in Valence at the end of August. The next one will be in Paris in October, and is already half full.
