Newsletter – December 2025 FRNIX Community NewsFrom France-IX’s 15th anniversary to a student’s first steps at an aPEERo: immerse yourself in an edition that brings generations together, strengthens ties with Spain and sets the agenda for 2026. Editorial by Antoine Nivard, FRNIX Secretary, Chair of Ouest.Network, Network and Security Architect / COOPERATIVE UWow, 15 years! What a wonderful event organised by the France-IX team to celebrate the 15th anniversary of France’s first Internet exchange point. This event provided an opportunity to explore the entire France-IX ecosystem and to define the evolution of our ultra-connected digital world, with extremely high data rates and a high standard of service that is becoming the primary criterion for network architecture. Latency is the key differentiating factor and the high-level element, a service made possible by PEERING at Internet Exchange Points such as France-IX. To round off the conference programme and before celebrating France-IX’s anniversary in style, Franck Simon, President of France-IX, made some key announcements for the coming years. France-IX is not alone and is not isolated in Europe. As well as having a presence in major French cities, France-IX is rolling out its COO projectPEERCooperation with ISPs in neighbouring countries; first agreement with ESpanix (see the announcement below). New prospects for the years ahead On the one hand, France-IX is charting a new course alongside other, international IXPs. On the other hand, we can see a growing momentum amongst regional IXPs. The world of IXPs is dynamic and undergoing a period of renewal. This allows everyone to find their place whilst working together. IXPs form a small community that communicates with one another, and FRNIX is there to develop peering. News in brief: FRNIX is promoting the ANSSI initiative on securing open-source softwareAs part of its work monitoring and coordinating the internet interconnection sector, FRNIX is publicising the initiative launched by the National Cyber Security Agency (ANSSI), which is currently conducting a survey of security requirements for open-source software. The aim of this consultation is to identify the expectations of the various sectors in order to prioritise the assessment work carried out by ANSSI on the security of this software. FRNIX invites all stakeholders in the digital ecosystem to contribute to this initiative by completing the online questionnaire, which is available until Friday 16 January 2026.

aPEERo events are not just forums for discussion amongst professionals: They also enable enthusiastic students to discover different careers, gain hands-on experience, and sometimes make life-changing connections. Why did you take part in the aPEERo?«I decided to take part in aPEERo to step outside the purely academic setting and gain a more practical understanding of the field of networking. My aim was also to meet professionals in the sector. I really enjoyed the event, as I had the chance to meet people who offered to take me on a tour of a data centre.» What did you think of your visit to the data centre?«The visit was very enlightening. I was able to see the concepts I’m learning at the Lycée Jacques Brel, as part of my BTS SIO course, put into practice. I really enjoyed seeing how a data centre actually works, and it made me want to deepen my knowledge even further.» What sort of work placement are you looking for?«I would like to undertake an internship in the field of networking, ideally as a Network and Systems Support Technician or in Helpdesk. I am motivated, reliable, inquisitive and ready to give my all. I offer my enthusiasm and determination to any company looking for a committed team member for its support or networking team.» |
