Newsletter – February 2026 FRNIX Community NewsIn this issue, you’ll find all the latest news from our network: the success of the aPEERos, feedback from our members, and the arrival of new organisations that are enriching our ecosystem. Do also make a note of our upcoming events and essential workshops. That’s it, 2026 is off and running! The FRNIX board is more committed than ever to representing the community’s views, overseeing the FRNIX team on a day-to-day basis and ensuring that France‑IX, together with Franck and his teams, makes progress in the strategic framework set out by the association. In 2025, the success of the workshops and aPEERos demonstrated our community’s interest in maintaining a a setting that encourages interaction and a friendly atmosphere. Back in 1998, when I was a young network engineer at Club-Internet (A long time ago in a far-off galaxy 😃), the name ARPANET rang in my ears and those of my colleagues as the forerunner of the Internet, created so that…'a country should never be isolated and prevented from communicating. Unfortunately, recent events show that internet censorship still exists in 2026, both through a complete cut-off of terrestrial connections and through the jamming of satellite connections. This demonstrates once again the importance of interconnecting our IP networks, thereby enabling a internet resilience in the event of any criminal offence. Now in its 15th year, France-IX has demonstrated its ability to act as the leading player in IP interconnection in France. I'encourages our community more than ever to continue rolling out our networks and resources in order to continually strengthen this technical infrastructure, upon which, year on year, an ever-increasing number of new services essential to our daily lives are built. See you very soon at an aPEERo! Over to our members: Justin Briard, Chief Technical Officer - Datalok As a participant in the first meeting of the 'Governance & Strategy' Working Group, what motivated you to join this initiative, and what are your initial impressions?
My first impression was one of slight apprehension. I hardly knew any of the members, and I don’t come from a networking background; my background is in the cloud, infrastructure and architecture. The main reason I joined this working group was that I wanted to share my experience on various topics, in particular digital sovereignty. And then there’s curiosity, too. Take CSR, for example – so far, I’ve only ever approached it from a "user" perspective in my jobs. I’d really like to explore the environmental aspect in more detail and understand the challenges facing operators and infrastructure providers. From that very first meeting, what was the most memorable point or the most relevant discussion for Datalok? The most striking aspect – and, in fact, there are several: the diversity of the participants, the good humour of those present, and this a collective desire to build do something together. I think this sort of group is an ideal place to share viewpoints which, I am convinced, will not always be in line with one another. And that is precisely where the value lies: in being able to discuss and understand everyone’s different interests, in order to to develop a shared vision. The benefit for Datalok is that we gain a better understanding of our partners, and to champion a vision French and European associations and government bodies to promote our technical ecosystem. What message would you like to convey to other members who have not yet joined the working groups, and what are your expectations for the next stages of the 'Governance & Strategy' group? The message is simple: don’t be afraid to come along. Yes, it can be a bit daunting at first. But everyone here is here to chat and share their experiences and views. And we need various perspectives, that is what makes this sort of initiative so valuable. My expectations for the next stages are dialogue, a a desire to work together, and even more good cheer 😉 |
