Editorial by
Christine Guillaume, Deputy Treasurer at FRNIX

As a new board member of FRNIX, I was fortunate enough to serve as Rezopole’s treasurer for 10 years.

With the LyonIX IXP, we had a tried-and-tested model, with 100 members and 8 POPs. The The local community naturally came to life, driven by a strong sense of community and a shared commitment to independence and excellence in the region.

Today, creating and developing this momentum at the'nationwide is a more ambitious challenge. There are, of course, forms of centralism that we have to work around, or fight against. But it is by sticking together that we will be best placed to succeed.

That is precisely the role of FRNIX : to lead, unite, support and drive new projects for the benefit of the network interconnection community.

This mission also comes with a clear responsibility: that of being committed shareholder France-IX, whose teams manage our national IXP 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Whether you are a telecoms provider, hosting provider, digital services company, systems integrator, CDN, cyber security provider or software publisher, it is in your best interests to support this community and to benefit from it directly.
It was created for you. It is through you, and together with you, that it will continue to exist and grow for the benefit of its members, the country and its territories.
To get this right, we need your direct feedback : Tell us what you need, what inspires you or what’s worrying you.

Please take a few minutes to complete our positioning survey.

France-IX launches its new ‘Peering Essentiel’ service!

France-IX thus becomes the only neutral French IXP to operate two completely independent peering platforms. Peering Essentiel operates in parallel with Peering Plus: separate hardware, separate operating systems, and no shared network components.

In summary, Peering Essentiel is:

  • 100 % self-service: public pricing, online ordering via the France-IX portal, connection within 24 hours (excluding cross-co)
  • 5 capacity levels, from 1 G to 400 G
  • No commitment: 3 months’ notice, instant upgrades and downgrades
  • Hosted at Telehouse Paris 2, at the heart of the French internet
  • All of France-IX’s expertise, including RPKI ROV routing servers with IRR filtering, and 24/7 support

Don’t delay: an introductory offer is available to the first 50 customers!

There is no activation fee. Recurring postage charges are also waived as long as the Essentiel LAN network throughput remains below 100 Gbps – guaranteed at least until the end of September 2026.

Telehouse is waiving the recurring cross-connect charges until the end of the year.

What you can actually expect from FRNIX

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, a major study is currently underway to gain a better understanding of your perception of FRNIX and to identify your unmet expectations. At our last Annual General Meeting on 28 May 2026, we presented the preliminary results of this mixed-methods (qualitative and quantitative) study. Here are the key takeaways.

Strong legitimacy and a powerful network of relationships

The initial results are very encouraging. FRNIX has undeniable legitimacy within the ecosystem.

Our relational capital is particularly strong, thanks in particular to events such as aPEERo, which remain our most high-profile activity. Current members also show strong support, with a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of +41 and a satisfaction rate of 100 % regarding the usefulness of FRNIX.

Clearly identified areas for improvement

Whilst there is a strong sense of commitment within the organisation, you have also shared with us specific expectations for the future. The study highlights a key paradox: although the association is regarded as very useful, its role remains unclear to some.

Several priorities have emerged from your feedback:

  1. To clarify the relationship between FRNIX and France-IX : We need to draw a clearer distinction between the association (FRNIX) and the company (France-IX), and to set out a more explicit value proposition regarding our remit, our governance and our limitations.
  2. FStandardise the membership package : You are expecting a more structured proposal. Membership needs to become more tangible through exclusive services and the creation of active working groups, going beyond our role as mere event organisers.
  3. Bringing together regional IXPs : Support for regional internet exchange points (IXPs) is an issue on which there is a very broad consensus (backed by 95 % of those who voted). You expect FRNIX to raise awareness, share best practice and facilitate networking in order to strengthen the national community.
  4. Tailoring our messages : Depending on whether you are an operator, an independent consultant or a large organisation, your expectations will differ (accuracy, network, a clear framework, autonomy). Our approach will need to be tailored to better address these specific challenges.

It’s your turn: take part in the quantitative phase!

These initial findings, whilst insightful, now need to be consolidated. The quantitative phase of our study is still ongoing, and your feedback is essential to enable us to prioritise these actions and shape the future of FRNIX.

Whether you are a long-standing member, a new partner or simply an observer of our ecosystem, we need your feedback to gauge the extent of these expectations and identify the most relevant courses of action.

Don’t miss this chance to make your voice heard!

The questionnaire will only take a few minutes to complete.
