FRNIX Community News

On the agenda this month: plenty of events and meetings, a new map of IXPs, and case studies from France-IX and CoStrat FRNIX.

Editorial by
Gabriel Chenevoy, FRNIX Director,
Chair of the Strategy Committee at France IX Services SAS

For the past three years, the strategic committee which I currently have the pleasure of chairing has been steering France-IX Service’s strategy. It acts as the link between the association and the company.

Every connection tells a story. That of a regional operator joining France-IX to improve its latency, a public sector organisation securing its data exchanges, or a hosting provider seeking to relocate its traffic. In 15 years, our community has grown from a few dozen members to more than 530 interconnected organisations, representing over 3 Tb/s of aggregate traffic. Behind these figures lies a firm belief: the performance of the French network is based on cooperation rather than competition.

These significant figures are the result of steady growth, but the story does not end there, as we estimate the size of the internet exchange community in France to be around 1,500 active ASes.

This year, FRNIX’s objective is clear: to build on this momentum. This involves developing skills through BGP training courses and aPEERo meet-ups across France. Together, we are building a continuum of exchange where every member, large or small, finds their place and contributes to the greater whole.

Looking back and looking ahead, I realise just how much FRNIX embodies the spirit of a community that takes action. Together, let’s transform our exchange network into a vibrant ecosystem, where trust is built bit by bit. The celebration of France IX Services’ 15th anniversary on 27 November will be an opportunity to strengthen these ties.

A trusted network for active digital sovereignty

«Managing digital data flows has become as much a strategic challenge as a technical one. Whilst businesses are calling for more safety, by performance and sovereignty When it comes to their interconnections, the limitations of current models are becoming apparent. As the French leader in interconnection (peering), France-IX offers a practical solution: a a robust, distributed and interoperable infrastructure, at the heart of a trusted European network. ». »
